My Alter Ego

My Alter Ego

As I made my escape

she faced me,

don’t come near me

I said, or I will scream.

she was wearing a suit,

hair perfectly styled,

taupe nylons and

pointy shoes,

she stood a few feet away,

said well how do you

think I feel? I was

taken aback---who was she?

why had she given up

her identity to the

corporate world?

She did look like me

was she my alter ego?

a person from my past?

someone I could have been?

before committing to my art

In my casual jeans

I felt compassion for

this other me who seemed

to wish she could

let her curls

tumble and flow

as she sculpts imaginary

images.

The Unmade Bed

Sheets rumpled, shape

of your body, smell

of your skin.

I lie down on the bed

remember

frolicking

on those sheets,

scented candle,

Frank Sinatra,

tender spoken words.

In the kitchen I brew

chamomile tea

still feel the glow

of your touch,

passion of evening.

in the bedroom

I stare at the bed,

if only I could shake

the sheets, plump the

pillow, fluff the comforter

create the music we shared again.

The Sea Of Uncertainty

The Sea Of Uncertainty

How can I live each day,

without resolving

every problem,

without finding answers

to every question,

navigating a sea of grey

with oars of trust,

blindly following

a truth that only

my soul knows clearly?

How can I live each day,

not knowing what

the next will bring,

how do I row my boat,

across this wide

expance of water,

with no compass?

Perhaps I will learn

to relish

each swell, each wave,

and fly like

an adventurous

seagull scavenging

the shore until

finally settling

upon

clarity

and

bliss.
